Used for smoke leak detection.
Common Applications
- Plumbing & Sewer: Locating broken pipes, cracked vent pipes, or missing traps causing foul odors inside homes.
- HVAC & Ductwork: Identifying leaks in air handling systems to improve energy efficiency.
- Building Envelope: Finding air leakage in roofs, walls, and around windows.
- Automotive: Detecting leaks in exhaust systems or EVAP systems.
How the Test is Performed
- Preparation: Ensure all P-traps in the plumbing are filled with water to prevent smoke from escaping through dry drains.
- Sealing the System: Isolate the area to be tested. For sewer tests, this often involves sealing roof vents.
- Inserting Smoke: A smoke candle (our wick smoke bomb) is lit and placed inside a container (or directly into the system) and a blower/fan is used to force the smoke into the pipes or area.
- Inspection: Walk through the area to identify any visible smoke escaping from walls, outlets, or fixtures.
Key Considerations
- Safety: The smoke produced is non-toxic, but should not be inhaled directly. Ensure proper ventilation after the test is complete.
- Equipment: Smoke candles can be used alone for open areas, but for pressure testing (like pipes), they require a blower mechanism, sometimes created using a shop vacuum.
- Types of Smoke: We produce high-volume, professional-grade smoke for these applications.
For residential sewer odor issues, this method is considered the most accurate, as it makes invisible, hidden leaks instantly visible.
